Kelly Long, D.V.M.
I am a native north Floridian from a rural community in Live Oak. My family there owns and operates a multi-generational cattle and tobacco farm. Having grown up on a farm, animals have always been in my blood. In my youth I cared for dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, pigs, cows, goats, horses and even wild fox and raccoons. Having grown up in such an animal rich environment it was only natural to dedicate my life to their care and well-being.
After graduation from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996, I spent 3 years in an exclusive dairy practice serving northern and central Florida. In 2000, I purchased Tomoka Pines Veterinary Hospital where I have been serving our clients, patients and community ever since. My special interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, ultrasound and radiology. I have been active locally in the Volusia County Veterinary Medical Association where I served as president for 6 years. I continue to attend state and national conferences to expand my knowledge in current medicine and surgery. I strive to focus on preventative care and senior pet wellness.
I have two wonderful children, both of whom love animals. Our animal family has included multiple dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, hamsters and fish. I enjoy time with my children foremost. In addition I love the outdoors, including camping, hiking, fishing, archery and shooting sports. I love the Rocky Mountains, travel, cooking, wine, music and photography. When not at work, I may be hard to find!

From a young age, I knew that my life would be spent working with animals. I brought my first pets’ home from my agriculture teacher in middle school under the guise that we would just be “fostering” them, needless to say we had Boots and Abe the rest of their lives. As a sophomore in high school, I began my first job as a kennel assistant and have been involved in veterinary medicine ever since.
I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Central Florida and went on to attend the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. As a veterinarian, I enjoy dentistry, preventative medicine and being a part of the human-animal bond. I have a soft spot for Chihuahuas and share my home with two, Killian and Gracie. The Chihuahuas enjoy bossing around their brother, Smitty, the exuberant German Shorthaired Pointer. Not to be forgotten is Dexter, my sweet geriatric cat.
Outside of the office I keep busy with DIY home projects, exercising Smitty, and outdoor adventures (hiking, biking, kayaking, etc).

Sue, Office Manager, C.V.T.
Originally from Virginia, I am a graduate of the Veterinary Technology Program at Blue Ridge Community College. Animals have been my passion since I was a young child and I am so fortunate to be in a profession that I really love, and am continually growing and challenged in. I have been with Tomoka Pines Veterinary Hospital since 1981. There have been a lot of changes in medicine and technology since then, and Tomoka Pines has continued to grow and improve with the times. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to gain many lasting friendships with coworkers, clients and their companion animals. My animal family includes two cats. When not at work I enjoy spending time with my family, my church, barn and at the beach.

Rachel, Practice Manager, Technician
I was 5 years old when I got my first pet, a big tabby cat named Sampson. It was my mission to always try to “fix” him, wrapping him up in an Ace bandage and giving him some pretend medicine, I always wanted to make sure he would stay healthy and happy. It was only natural I was drawn to veterinary medicine and when I began my career as a veterinary technician in 1996 making it my new mission to ensure everyone’s pets were healthy and happy. I have also bred and raised Ragdoll cats since 2000, most weekends you can find me at a cat show having fun with my show cats. I am very proud to be part of the team here at Tomoka Pines and look forward to helping your pets to be healthy and happy!

I was born in Georgia, but have since lived in Deutschland, Kansas and most recently, Florida. I have been in this field for over eight years, and I could not imagine doing anything else! I graduated from PennFoster College with an AAS in Animal Technology. I have volunteered at the Atlanta Zoo, as well as the Milford Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Kansas. In my spare time, I enjoy the outdoors, roller derby, and playing washboard. I travel most everywhere with “The Cal Dog,” my 17-year-old terrier mix. I feel very fortunate to work the career that I do and have the knowledge to educate others in how to best care for their four-legged friends.

I grew up in Connecticut, but was never a fan of the cold, so I migrated south to Florida. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in May of 2019 with my Bachelor’s in Animal Science and am now continuing to pursue my career in veterinary medicine as a veterinary technician. I have been working in this field for the last four years and intend to make it a lifelong career. When I am not working, I am spending my time on the farm with my horse, as that is my second passion and where I find my happy place. I love meeting and caring for new patients and cannot wait to meet you and your furry companion!

I was born and raised in Queens, New York. Growing up, I was always told that I would be either a lawyer or a doctor. As life would have it, I am neither, however, I have found my calling in veterinary medicine. I have been in the veterinary field for 15 years and have loved every second of it! In my free time, you can find my husband and I on the softball field cheering on our two daughters, hanging by the pool with our two dogs Diesel and Niko, or watching a New York Yankees or a Miami Dolphins game.
